Masks and Snorkels
A diving mask and snorkel are essential pieces of equipment used in underwater activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and free diving. They work together to enhance the diver's underwater experience by providing clear vision and allowing for sustained breathing while exploring beneath the surface.
A diving mask, also known as a scuba mask or snorkel mask, is designed to create an air pocket in front of the diver's eyes, allowing them to see clearly underwater while keeping their nose and eyes dry. It typically consists of a tempered glass or plastic lens, a skirt made of silicone or rubber that creates a watertight seal against the face, and straps that secure the mask in place. The lens is usually curved to provide a wide field of vision and may have anti-fog coating to prevent fogging during use.
The primary function of a diving mask is to provide a clear and distortion-free view underwater. It allows divers to see the vibrant marine life, coral reefs, and underwater landscapes in their natural beauty. The mask's design ensures that the diver's eyes are protected from water pressure, debris, and potential irritants, allowing for a comfortable and enjoyable diving experience.
A snorkel, on the other hand, is a curved tube that allows divers to breathe while their face is submerged in the water. It is typically made of flexible materials such as silicone or rubber and features a mouthpiece for the diver to grip between their teeth. The snorkel tube extends above the water surface, allowing the diver to inhale air through the snorkel and exhale through the mouth. Some snorkels also have a purge valve at the bottom to easily clear out any water that may enter.
